Job Market Causes Accidental Entrepreneurs

Job Market Causes Accidental Entrepreneurs

Many entrepreneurs become self employed by lack of employment options.

They simply could not find a job.  I hear this frequently when I ask other business owners why they started their business. Their reply is always the same, they had to earn a living. Some had the passion to blaze their own trail, but for many there were no other options other than start a business.

Many people parrot the government numbers showing the unemployment rate is low and there are plenty of jobs and opportunity for everyone. How many people you know are working, looking at the possibility of being let go due to budget cuts or contract cancellations? How many people you know who are unemployed currently or underemployed?

The Bureau of Labor Statistics states " Count a person as unemployed if they are out of work and say they are available for work and have stated they looked for work in the last four weeks.  This rule applies whether or not the person is receiving unemployment benefit."

Have you or anyone you know been contacted in some form such as a text, phone call, email, or letter to inquire if you are employed or unemployed? No one I know has ever had contact in that manner.  Has anyone seen a social media post anywhere about a person being asked their job status by a bureaucrat in the BLS?

In the 1980s, the government changed the way they calculated unemployment to hide the high unemployment rate. They created  a new way to manipulate the unemployment numbers going forward.  Statistics and numbers can always be manipulated.

Here is a  website named Shadowstats that apparently has been online many years and the numbers they show are interesting.  The site claims to follow the old way of counting the numbers of unemployed.

Here is a chart of what their number crunching shows for the so called real unemployment rates in the USA currently. The chart is updated frequently so the numbers can change. If you want to see the current figures, just click the picture or use the link below to go to their website to see the current figures.

Do these numbers appear to be an accurate reflection of what is going on in the economy now?

If you curious about other aspects of the United States economy, they also cover the money supply, inflation rates, CPI calculator, GDP, as well as the dollar.
